Augmented Reality

Learn about the St. Regis

Time allowed: two weeks.

This experience brings the St. Regis (Vista Tower) to a smaller scale so people can really get a good look at it. This teaches people about the St. Regis specifically how it measures up to other buildings, the designer, and integral structural elements.

Over the summer of ‘24 and ‘25 I worked on an architecture tour boat that went down the Chicago river. I fell in love with learning about the buildings and having fun facts to tell my friends. I was asked often what my favorite building was and I always said the St. Regis because I love that Chicago is home to the tallest building designed by a female architect.
The breezeway is something that people always ask about so I wanted to make sure I highlighted that in my experience. The player can tap the building to learn more about Jeanne Gang and the structure or they can tap the bar that is bouncing on the left side and other buildings pop up for size reference. I wanted an experience so people could easily learn about all the fun facts about this amazing building.

Here is the image that shows when the user starts the experience. The St. Regis and a few interactable elements.

This appears after tapping on the model of the St. Regis. This explains Studio Gang who designed the St. Regis and Jeanne Gang who founded Studio Gang.

After tapping the object on the left Aqua Tower and then the Burj Khalifa appears to show the size difference.

After tapping on the object explaining Studio Gang this appears. It explains what breezeways and damper tanks are, since those are questions that are often asked about the St. Regis.

This is a walkthrough of all the capabilities of the experience. When the user gets close enough to the St. Regis model it begins to spin to show off the full structure. When the object on the left is clicked, Aqua Tower and then the Burj Khalifa appear to show the size difference. When the St. Regis is tapped information pops up about Studio Gang/Jeanne Gang and some of the structural elements.
